Well, our neighbor was correct!  We were inundated at Halloween with tens of dozens of kids, from tiny ones to teenagers!  Luckily we had plenty of candy and the visiting kids were very appreciative.  It is always a treat to see their costumes when the weather is mild enough that they don’t have to be wrapped up against the cold!  So, from Halloween, my thoughts turn to Thanksgiving and all that I am thankful for in my life. There are so many people who are having a difficult time at the moment and I feel very fortunate that I have a wonderful family and that I love my work in real estate.  This year has definitely been more difficult than last year in the housing market but it has also been a time of tremendous opportunity for those agents who are really prepared to work hard.  In addition, the learning curve has been incredible - talk about having to “think outside the box!”  I have to confess that I have really enjoyed this buyers’ market and the challenges that it has given me!  I so enjoy helping my clients navigate their way through the search for either a buyer or a house, working through the negotiations and guiding them through the ins and outs of post-contract/pre-closing procedures!  Anyway, back to the subject of Thanksgiving - for me, having grown up in England, the great appeal of this very special holiday is that it is a time for family and friends without any “gifts” or other distractions!  It is also a great opportunity to practice preparing and cooking a truly wonderful meal for all to enjoy.  My favorite part is sitting around the table when each person expresses their gratitude for the last year and their hopes for the year to come.  We “adopted” Thanksgiving in our family long before we became citizens and we have had many visitors from Europe over the years who also love the holiday.  Autumn’s harvest festival is just not the same!

Halloween in Summit, NJHaving just moved house (about two months ago) we are excited to be getting ready for Halloween on our new street.  In our old neighborhood we expected several dozens of young trick or treaters and thought that we would definitely attract a few more in the new location.  Over the weekend a very kind neighbor saw us outside (busy planting spring bulbs before the rain appeared) and came over to talk to us.  “I know that you work in real estate Lucy and that you have lived in Summit for years but,” she warned us,”the kids come here in truckloads because our street is level, short and well decorated.”  She advised us to go straight to the supermarket and stock up on three times as much candy as we thought we would need!  We have now got a whole large drawer full of candy so either we are ready for the invading hordes or else we will be spending next weekend eating through everything (and putting on weight!)  Watch this space!!
